Solana Beach Sports Therapy

Located within the Sheppard Spine & Sports Clinic in Solana Beach, the Solana Beach Sports Therapy practice specializes in soft tissue injuries using Active Release Techniques (ART®).

ART® is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system/movement-based technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART®. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

ART® was developed specifically to deal with muscle and fascial injury and dysfunction. The use and abuse of the human body can damage muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. In response, your body tries to repair the damaged area. The build-up of scar tissue over time results in the formation of fibrous adhesions, which prevent muscles and joints from moving freely. These adhesions can often entrap a nerve or refer pain to other parts of the body.

Why ART?

The core benefit of ART is preventing and breaking up dense scar tissue, also called adhesions. Adhesions limit the normal range of motion of joints and muscles because they cause abnormal binding between muscle groups, are very tough and are inflexible compared to healthy tissue.

The reason that ahesions form is to bind injured tissues and keep them stable — however, the adhesions act like a strong “glue” and can often compress or pinch nerves. Nerves sometimes become entrapped by scar tissue, which causes trigger points and pain to develop. The more that scar tissue forms, the more joints or tendons become strained and nerves become compressed.

I had a nagging hip issue that had been treated with other methods but had never gotten better. I thought it was just something I had to live with. Cory was able to get me to 90% after the first two treatments! Only wish I had found him sooner. I'm back to working out at full strength. He's a fantastic sports therapist!

I was suffering from shoulder muscle pain while on business in San Diego from Sydney, Australia. I couldn't properly use my right arm for a couple months, which prevented me from working out. I decided to look into ART with Cory.

During my intake appointment he started working immediately on my shoulder and determined that my rotator cuff was affected. He also clearly explained potential complications if not treated. Not only did Cory start the treatment but avoided further deterioration. Motion started to return after a handful of treatments. I can confirm that Cory's ART treatment is one of the best. He listens and applies his skills and experience. As a result, my right shoulder has recovered. I am fully functional again and avoided surgical intervention.

For the last 10 years I have been dealing with numbness and tingling shooting down my neck, shoulder, arm and hand. I have seen many professionals including chiropractors, neurologists, acupuncturists, physical therapists and more practitioners than you can imagine.  My personal trainer told me to give Cory a shot because he was a miracle worker.

I was skeptical at first because I had tried everything else, but what did I have to lose. I am SO thankful I took my trainer's advice!! After just a few sessions with Cory my symptoms were gone. I could finally sit at a desk without a numb sensation in my neck. I could go to the gym without any shooting or tingling sensation down my arm.  Cory has been the ONLY ONE who has been able to help me with this.  I can’t thank Cory enough for “fixing” me. He truly cares about his patients and their ailments.  I am forever grateful to Cory!!

Get out of pain and back to living life.
